The origin of Yarn

Read a brilliant and hilarious essay on the origin of yarn at the above link. However, notice that the author neglected one complete section while writing her paper. There is mention of Lana knitterati, the common knitter, but she has neglected an important species "Lana Crochati". Not being a scientist, I am not sure of the family, species, genus, etc. I am, however, familiar with the non-scientific aspects of this creature. Is there a scientist & crocheter out there who can give us more of the scientific information?
